Business for sale: The Crafty Fox, Ōakura

For sale: The Crafty Fox, Ōakura. A much-loved Kiwiana gift shop in a seaside village.

Asking price: $37,000 plus GST (if any)

Picture this: a well-known Kiwi gift shop in the heart of Ōakura, five minutes from the beach, with the mountain right there.

A great village to be part of. The shop sits among friendly small businesses and is a real community hub, on the coast road from New Plymouth, just down the road from Ōakura's surf beach.

Ōakura is a special place. It's a friendly seaside village between the mountain and the sea, and a sought-after place to live. The Crafty Fox lets you be part of it every day, with a business you can enjoy in a place where the beach and the mountain are right on your doorstep. It's a lovely balance of work and life.

A business with a story. The Crafty Fox has been part of Ōakura village for 24 years. It started off in the little church, was run by John for 21 years, and after he passed it moved with Tony to Village Mews, 1155 South Road. The name is trademarked and well known.

The shop's own stock is the main income. The shelves are full of New Zealand: pounamu and pāua jewellery, leather bags and wallets, NZ souvenirs and gifts, NZ body care, wooden gifts and keepsakes, and Louise's own handmade wool jackets, clothing and jewellery. Established NZ supplier accounts can come with it, if agreed.

A co-op with room to grow. Right now a co-op of 55 local makers sells jewellery, bone, knitwear, soft toys and art on commission. Keep it going, grow it, or make it your own, keeping its proudly Kiwi theme. Out the back there's space for workshops and classes, or to work on your own creations while still covering the shop.

Already selling online. An established Facebook Page and a transferable website, domain and online shop at thecraftyfox.kiwi.nz, selling across New Zealand.

The sale includes the shop's own stock, the trademarked name, the website and domain, and the Facebook Page. Makers' consignment stock goes back to the makers. A lease is available in the building. Shop furniture is available separately, about $6,400 plus GST (if any), by negotiation.

Selling for family reasons.

Asking price: $37,000 plus GST (if any). That's the shop's own stock, about $32,000 at cost, plus $5,000 for the trademarked name, website, domain and Facebook Page. The final stock value may change after the stocktake on handover day. We can switch the website over to your contact details and help with the handover.
